We've been renting a house for a little over a year and a half. Our lease was set to be over at the end of May, so we recently started looking for houses and townhouses to rent. We aren't ready to buy a house yet, so we are perfectly content renting a place that gives us and Ollie Pug a little space to cook and hangout. We had a pretty hard time finding anything that we liked (and allowed dogs AND had enough parking for all of our vehicles) that wasn't almost twice the rent we're paying. We decided to stay put, nest a bit, and find happiness.
It started with a little yellow paint.
After leaving work one day earlier in the week, I got a wild hare and stopped by Lowes. I came home with a fern for the front porch, a paint brush, and a quart of Sunshine Yellow paint. We had talked about painting the inside of our door last year, but just never got around to it (you know, wedding, blah blah...) I cannot express to you how HAPPY our little yellow door has made me this week!
I, notoriously, get SUPER squirrelly when the weather warms up, and this year is no different. Inspired by my little yellow door, I've been working on a list of things that are going to help us FIND HAPPINESS.
Here is my list right now:
Paint the inside of the front door yellow. check.
2. Curate our belongings. This means purging all of the extra crap (an ongoing project) and then deciding what things we're really in love with. The rest? It can go. I was super inspired by this article about Jordan Ferney (my all-time fave blogfamous lady) and her tiny 500 sq. ft. apartment she shares with her husband and two small boys.
3. Plant some fruits, veggies and herbs. Don't kill them. The "don't kill them" part is necessary to say. I have a black thumb, but I want to grow my own food!
4. Can ALL of the things. May some of my own veggies? Pickles and jam, for sure.
5. Start a business?!!?!?!?!!!????? This is pee-in-my-pants scaryexciting, and I think it's happening. Instead of dipping my toes in with event styling, it seems as though my whole foot has been plunged in. I have THREE scheduled events so far for this year!! I have a BUSINESS MEETING for MYSELF in a few weeks. Holy nuts. Be on the lookout for into it. events!
I challenge you to make a list this weekend of things that are going to help YOU find happiness. What's going on your list? Please share!
